Law, justice and recovery: a team of "I'Mariupol" joined the nationwide discussion

A team of the "I'Mariupol" centre in Kropyvnytskyi took part in the 2nd All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference "Private and Public Legal Relations: Modernisation of Development in Conditions of Martial Law,"which was held at Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs.

Scientists, lawyers, representatives of state structures and public organisations discussed the challenges facing Ukraine's legal system during the war, as well as ways to modernise it.

The Mariupol City Council team was represented by the head of the centre, Oleksii Chuiko, and manager Ivan Lafazan, who focused on the important topic of compensation for destroyed and damaged property.

This issue is extremely relevant for Mariupol residents, as thousands of people have lost their homes, property and documents due to the armed aggression of the rf.

Providing compensation mechanisms is not only about material restoration, but also about restoring justice for every family that has survived occupation and destruction.

"Through the network of "I'Mariupol" centres, data is collected on the deceased, on the destroyed and damaged property of Mariupol residents, evidence is gathered for compensation for damages, and war crimes are recorded. Work is also being done to prepare and file lawsuits in court. Every day, lawyers and administrators at the Mariupol Administrative Services Centre help Mariupol residents restore justice by submitting applications to the International Register of Damages," said Ivan in his statement.

Participants also shared practical experiences within the framework of Vadym Boichenko's human rights initiative "Mariupol Justice," which aims to document crimes committed by the rf and to support the affected residents of Mariupol.

Such meetings are important for forming a unified position of the state on issues of protecting citizens' rights, recovering destroyed territories, and developing a fair legal system in Ukraine.
