The Government of Ukraine has approved a resolution that kicks off the construction of new social housing.

The Government of Ukraine has approved a resolution that launches the construction of new social housing and enables Mariupol residents to take advantage of a state mortgage lending programme on the most favourable terms.
Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boichenko stressed that these two instruments will make it possible to provide housing for about 5,000 displaced persons from Mariupol in the first stage. The projects will be implemented using budget funds from the Mariupol City Council.
There are plans to build a residential neighbourhood of 10 houses in the city of Bila Tserkva. The project is based on the concept of social housing, which incorporates European experience that the Mariupol municipality has developed together with its partners.
The apartments in social housing will be renovated and furnished with furniture and household appliances. The rent will amount to UAH 5,000 per month.
In the first stage, this will provide housing for more than 1,500 Mariupol residents, but additional sources of funding are already being sought to scale up construction.
Thanks to the state mortgage lending programme, it is planned to grant more than a thousand affordable loans. Importantly, the loans will be provided in hryvnia with a term of up to 30 years.
"I would like to thank the Government of Ukraine, the Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine — Minister for Development of Communities and Territories Oleksii Kuleba, the Ministry team, as well as everyone who contributed to this important decision. This is a real step towards keeping people in the country," said Mayor Vadym Boichenko.
