"School of Community Recovery" with the support of the UK Government

The Association of Ukrainian Cities has recently presented the country's first Community Recovery School at an international forum. This project is based on the experience of the "Mariupol Reborn" initiative and international practice of rebuilding cities after the Second World War. Funding for the project is provided by the UK Government.

"The UK is honoured to support this vital project, which will train those who know their communities best to play a leading role in their recovery and reconstruction," said Lucy Buckland, First Secretary of the British Embassy in Ukraine, during the presentation.

She also noted that she was pleased to be present at the launch of the initiative, which is aimed at the reconstruction of Mariupol and other Ukrainian cities affected by russian aggression. 

"When my colleagues and I were presented with this project, we clearly understood that it was in line with our values, the values of our small projects fund. Therefore, we are pleased to be able to support it. The UK is unwavering in its support for Ukraine now - before the victory, as well as after the victory," Buckland added.

It is worth noting that "School of Community Recovery" is an educational platform for training municipal leaders who will play a key role in rebuilding Ukraine. Participants will learn how to develop community development strategies, economic models, solve social problems and attract investment.

The initiative was launched by the Association of Ukrainian Cities and the NGO "Mariupol.Reborn" with the support of the UK Government, as part of the UK International Development programme. The project partners are the International Republican Institute (IRI Ukraine), Metinvest, SCM, Metinvest Polytechnic and the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
