Developments of social housing project for Mariupol residents were presented in Kyiv

The conference "Housing for Life: Integrated Solutions for Internally Displaced Persons" was held in Kyiv. Deputy Mayor of Mariupol Serhii Zakharov shared the developments in the area of social housing for Mariupol residents.

"Almost 2 thousand Mariupol residents have an acute housing problem. That is why the Mariupol City Council, together with its partners, has launched the I'Mariupol.Housing project, which aims to create social housing by renovating dormitories in different regions of Ukraine," said Serhii Zakharov.

The pilot renovation of a dormitory in Dnipro, which currently houses 36 families, has allowed us to expand the geography of our support. The dormitory was renovated thanks to the support of the Governments of Ukraine and the French Republic, International Organization for Migration and other partners. Currently, there are plans to open 4 dormitories: two in Dnipro and two in Chernivtsi region.

A search is also underway to find opportunities to implement the project in other cities of Ukraine. These are Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Kropyvnytskyi, Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi, and Ivano-Frankivsk. Premises and partners are being searched for.

"First of all, we provide temporary housing for the most vulnerable categories - large families, families of prisoners of war, people with disabilities, the older people, families with people killed because of hostilities, and others. They especially need help in difficult times," - said Serhii Zakharov.
